Mangaluru: The officials of the various organisations of the Dakshina Kannada district, labour leaders and leaders of the Sangh Parivar have unanimously decided to convene a massive protest against the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) here on Monday September 6.

The press release stated that “at NMPT, 21 workers who have been on contract at Oil Jetty for the past 18 years have been sacked on January 1, 2021 without giving any reason. An appeal has been lodged with the concerned departments to reappoint the dismissed workers.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel after meeting with the authorities had ordered the NMPT officials to reappoint the sacked workers and demanded the suspension of the officers’ responsible for the dismissal.

However, the NMPT has not settled these issues from the past eight months and has not paid attention to the directions given by the MP.”

Against the arrogant behaviour of the NMPT officials, various organisations have decided to hold a massive protest in the meeting,” it said.

Vasantha Rao, Krishnamurthy, Jayaprakash Surinje  Praveen Krishnapur, President of MRPL Karmachari Sangha, President of Hindu Religious Service Committee Katipalla constituency, and Chelaru Gram Panchayat former President Pushparaja Shetty were present. NMPT General Employees’ Association B.M.S. Vice-President Rajesh Shettigar and other leaders spoke and expressed their full support to the protest.
