In a shocking crime, a 24-year-old college student, Shifa, was brutally murdered in Raichur district, Karnataka, after rejecting a marriage proposal. The accused, Mubin, a tile shop worker, surrendered after the attack.
Shifa, an MSc student from Sindhanoor town, traveled daily from Lingasaguru. She had known the accused for six years, during which he developed feelings for her. When he learned that her family was arranging her marriage to another man, he pressured her to marry him. Upon her refusal, he followed her near Sindhanoor Government Graduation College, stabbed her in the neck, and slit her throat before escaping.
After the murder, Mubin went to the footwear shop of the man Shifa’s marriage was being arranged with, caused a scene, and later surrendered at Lingasaguru police station.
Superintendent of Police Puttamadaiah inspected the crime scene and ordered increased security around colleges. Police have registered a case and are interrogating the accused.
This incident follows similar horrifying cases in Hubballi last year, where Neha Hiremath (April 18) and Anjali Ambigera (May 15) were killed by jilted lovers. Authorities are under pressure to take stronger preventive measures against such crimes.
