Channapatna: In a surprising disclosure, BJP leader C P Yogeshwar stated on Friday that the Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar and former Bengaluru rural MP Suresh—had intended to nominate actor Darshan as the Congress candidate for the bypoll in the Channapatna Assembly segment.
Addressing the media, Yogeshwar stated, “DK Suresh mentioned that the party would field a surprise candidate for the Channapatna Assembly bypoll. According to my information, the DK brothers were planning to nominate an actor who had campaigned for Congress candidates in Mandya and Bangalore Rural constituencies. Their surprise candidate is currently behind bars,” he said, indirectly referencing actor Darshan, who has been arrested in connection with a murder case of Renukaswamy.
Yogeshwar also claimed that the Sandalwood star was also interested to make political debut from Channapatna. But he was involved in a criminal case, he lamented.Â
The former BJP legislator, who is considered a strong contender for the Channapatna bypoll ticket from the BJP-JD(S) alliance, said, “There is a favorable atmosphere for the BJP in Channapatna. I am also an aspirant, but the combined leadership of the BJP and JDS will decide on the candidate.”
The Channapatna bypoll became necessary after its representative, H D Kumaraswamy, vacated the seat following his successful contest in the Lok Sabha polls as the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate from Mandya. The Election Commission has yet to announce the bypoll schedule for Channapatna.
