Security forces successfully defused two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Naxalites on a dirt track in Murdanda, Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday.

  • Discovery: The IEDs, concealed in beer bottles and plants, were found during a joint operation by the 229th battalion of CRPF and local police for Road Opening Party (ROP) and demining duties.
  • Neutralization: The CRPF Bomb Disposal Squad neutralized the explosives, preventing a potential tragedy.
  • Background: Bijapur, part of the Left Wing Extremism-affected Bastar division, has witnessed frequent Naxalite activity. Last year, 311 IEDs were recovered in the Bastar region.
  • Recent Incident: On January 6, Naxalites killed eight security personnel and a driver in Kutru area using a 60-70 kg IED, marking one of the deadliest attacks in two years.
