Kargal: The monsoon rains have brought a surge of water to the Sharavati River, creating a breathtaking spectacle at Jog Falls. Due to increased rainfall in the Linganamakki catchment area, the inflow into the reservoir has risen, prompting authorities to release a substantial amount of water through 11 radial gates.

The reservoir is currently receiving an inflow of 31,600 cusecs, while 32,980 cusecs are being released, resulting in a powerful flow that can be seen cascading over Chinagate Dam and through the Kargal sandbank towards Jog.

This surge in water has drawn tourists in droves to witness the majestic beauty of Jog Falls. Popular viewing points like Mumbai Bungalows, Mysore Bungalows, Sitakatte Bridge, and Chinagate are teeming with visitors eager to catch a glimpse of the Sharavati River rushing towards the abyss.

While the fog often obscures the view of the falls from Mysore Bungalow, it adds an element of mystique to the experience. Tourists come from far and wide to witness the mesmerizing sight of the water plunging into the depths, creating a stunning natural wonder.

Although the number of tourists has decreased during weekdays compared to weekends, the allure of Jog Falls remains strong. According to tourist guide Nagaraj, the area is usually packed with visitors during holidays, drawn by the opportunity to witness such a magnificent display of nature’s power.
