Monday morning saw extraordinary traffic congestion on Tumakuru Road as large crowds returned from the extended festive weekend. The area experienced persistent traffic jams from Madavara to the Goraguntepalya metro station, affecting the Outer Ring Road with delays extending up to three kilometers toward Hebbal.
Traffic police reported significant clogging at the CMTI Junction starting around 6 AM. “People coming from Tumakuru had no choice but to navigate through Goraguntepalya and Yeshwantpur,” noted a senior officer from Yeshwantpur traffic police station. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), MN Anucheth, described the inflow of traffic as “extremely heavy,” with approximately 4.2 kilometers of congestion on Tumakuru Road, five to six times the usual volume. The situation only began to clear by 12:30 PM.
The city also recorded 3.3 mm of rain overnight, but it did not lead to waterlogging or worsen the traffic situation. Meanwhile, Ballari Road saw traffic congestion double its usual level, stretching from 792 meters to nearly 1.4 kilometers.
Hebbal Junction was notably congested, particularly for inbound airport traffic, with navigation apps showing extensive delays from Jakkur Main Road to Nagawara. The newly opened service road through Kempegowda Park offered little relief, as vehicles moved slowly there as well.
In contrast, Mysuru Road saw a high volume of vehicles but manageable congestion, likely due to traffic fluctuations over the weekend.
In a related incident, a KSRTC bus reportedly suffered a brake failure and crashed into multiple vehicles on the Peenya flyover, causing damage but no casualties. The crash occurred around 9 PM, leading to significant traffic disruptions on Tumakuru Road for over an hour.
