Two youths died in a road accident on the outskirts of Mangaluru while returning from work on a two-wheeler early Friday. The deceased, Chethan (24) from Ramakunja and Kashinath (17) from Kodikal, were traveling from Padavinangady Junction to KPT Junction at around 2:30 a.m. Chethan, the rider, tried to avoid a truck moving in reverse but lost control, causing the bike to skid. Both suffered severe injuries and later died. Mangaluru City Traffic South Police have registered a case.
Separately, Mangaluru City Police booked two bus drivers after a brawl over bus timings at Thokkotu on September 3. Vishnu, driving the bus Padma, and Ajay, driving the bus Asar, were caught on video fighting over an overtaking dispute. A case under Section 194(2) for disturbing public peace has been filed, and preventive measures are being considered.
In another case, the Udupi CEN police arrested Ajmal Suhail (19) from Kozhikode, Kerala, in connection with an online trading scam. He is the fifth person arrested in this case. The scam was reported by Upendra Bhat, who was tricked into depositing Rs 33.1 lakh into a fraudulent account. Earlier arrests included Muhammad Mustafa P, Khalid B, Muhammad Safan KA, and Satish Shet.
