Brahmavar – Tensions are rising in Brahmavar as the Flyover Protest Committee announced an ultimatum: if work on the long-promised temporary service road is not initiated by April 27, a large-scale protest will erupt on April 29.
At a press meet held at Gajanan Hotel, committee member Alwin Andrade expressed frustration over the government’s inaction, recalling that a student’s tragic death earlier sparked the formation of the committee. “We were promised a service road from Mahesh Hospital to SMS within a week. That never happened. Over 2,000 students are forced to travel against traffic daily,” he said.
He added that while officials have approved a Rs 90 crore tender for a permanent road from Mabukala Bridge to Bhadragiri, actual work remains a mirage. “We were even assured a flyover and service road by the MP. But not a single stone has moved,” Andrade lamented.
Former Zilla Panchayat president Bhujanga Shetty highlighted the gravity of the situation with monsoon approaching, warning that 4,000 children will be endangered without road access. “At least 10 people fall daily, especially near Akashvani, where the raised road needs leveling,” he added.
Activist Vasanth Giliyar accused officials of staging a mock start with a JCB, only to retreat without action. RTI activist Sadashiva Shetty reported 95 accidents and 26 deaths between 2019 and 2024 due to flawed road design.
The committee has vowed to mobilize students and residents for a peaceful but firm protest if demands are not met.
