Udupi: Heavy rains coupled with strong winds wreaked havoc across Udupi district on Friday, leading to significant damage in multiple areas.

A massive tree crashed onto the village administration office in Kukkikatte, while in Indiranagar, a coconut tree toppled, damaging an auto-rickshaw, a house, and multiple electric poles.

Officials reported that more than 30 houses across the district were affected.

  • In Brahmavar taluk, the house of Sitarama Devadiga (Giliyar) was completely destroyed, with estimated losses exceeding ₹2.5 lakh.

  • In Ullur village, Prakash Shetty reported damages amounting to ₹2 lakh.

  • Other areas facing storm-related destruction include:

    • Chantaru and Heggunje (Brahmavar taluk)

  • Palli (Karkala taluk)

  • Chiliaragoli (Kaup taluk)

  • Kandavara, Kumbhasi, Kundapura Kasaba (Kundapur taluk)

  • Gundigoli, Anagalli, Badami Katte (Basur region)

  • Electricity supply has been disrupted in several pockets due to fallen poles, and local authorities are assessing damages and initiating relief measures.
