Udupi: In a surprise crackdown on administrative inefficiencies, Lokayukta officials conducted an unannounced inspection at the Karkala Municipality and Taluk Office earlier today. Their visit aimed to probe alleged delays in delivering essential public services.
Acting on multiple complaints from citizens, the Lokayukta team scrutinized various departments, particularly focusing on areas with recurring grievances. These included delays in processing account transfers, issuing birth and death certificates, granting business licenses, and other civic services.
The officials meticulously examined files across departments at the Municipality Office. During their inspection, they unearthed a significant backlog — including a key file that had remained unattended for over ten months. When questioned, the concerned staff were unable to offer a satisfactory explanation for the delay.
In addition to reviewing the municipality departments, the Lokayukta officers also visited the record rooms at the Taluk Office. There too, they checked for stalled files and procedural lapses. Officials were strongly advised to speed up service delivery and maintain transparency in all administrative processes.
This unexpected inspection has triggered a wave of anxiety among office staff and has sent a strong message about accountability. The Lokayukta’s firm stance underscores the need for efficient governance and timely response to public needs.
The local public has welcomed the move, hoping it will lead to more responsible functioning and faster resolution of pending requests.
