MLA Yash Pal Suvarna Urges Swift Action on Uppur River Erosion
Udupi: MLA Yash Pal Suvarna visited the erosion-affected stretch near Nagarajidda, under Uppur Gram Panchayat jurisdiction, to assess the growing damage caused by riverbank erosion.
During the inspection, the MLA observed that intensified river erosion had already uprooted several coconut trees, and the nearby concrete access road was in danger of being completely severed. Concerned by the situation, he issued on-the-spot directives to the Karnataka Irrigation Corporation officials to begin immediate emergency reinforcement work.
Suvarna emphasized that the construction of permanent retaining walls in vulnerable erosion zones in Nagarajidda has already received government clearance. He urged engineers and contractors to commence these works without delay to avoid further damage to local infrastructure and property.
The visit was attended by Uppur Gram Panchayat President Gayatri, Vice President Satish Pujari, and Panchayat members Avinash Shetty, Mahesh Kotyan, Rajesh Rao, Netravathi, and Prashant Mayadi. Supporting officials included Village Accountant Pramod, Panchayat Development Officer Anupama, Assistant Executive Engineer Sunil, and Assistant Engineer Pritam from the Irrigation Department.
The MLA’s visit comes at a critical time, as monsoon rains are expected to intensify, increasing the risk to both public safety and essential road links in the region. Swift and coordinated intervention was emphasized to prevent further loss.
