The preliminary autopsy of Subadhra, a 73-year-old woman found buried at a house in Kalavoor, Alappuzha, revealed multiple injuries, including broken ribs, hand, and neck, with the body estimated to be about a month old. The left hand was tied behind her body.
A special investigation team, led by Mannanchery SHO M.K. Rajesh, is searching for the suspects, Mathews (38) and Sharmila (36), who fled to Mangaluru after the murder. Part of Subadhra’s stolen ornaments, pledged at a jewelry shop in Alappuzha, has been confiscated. The suspects’ phones are switched off, complicating the search efforts.
Mathews has a criminal history dating back to his childhood, including a gold chain snatching incident and regular altercations fueled by alcohol. His father, Cleetus, mentioned Mathews’ troubled behavior, leading to his first divorce and ongoing conflicts with locals. Sharmila, who had connections with Subadhra, is suspected to have exploited her financial dealings with the elderly woman, which may have led to the murder.
The body of Subadhra has been handed over to her relatives after the postmortem.
