Udupi: Udupi Town Police have registered a suo motu case against Riyaz Kadambu, the State Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), for allegedly delivering inflammatory remarks following the discovery of a severed cow head on a road in Kunjalu.
During a press conference held in Udupi on Saturday, Kadambu accused Sangh Parivar and BJP leaders of using the incident as a tool to disturb communal peace. He alleged that they were attempting to exploit the situation to ignite religious discord.
In response, the police filed a suo motu FIR, asserting that Kadambu’s statements were unfounded and potentially provocative. Authorities believe the comments could spread misinformation, fuel interfaith hostility, and possibly trigger unrest in the area.
The police have emphasized that such public statements, especially in a sensitive context, can escalate tensions and threaten law and order. The FIR mentions concerns over the dissemination of hate speech that may deepen communal divides.
An official investigation into the matter is now underway. Udupi Town Police are collecting evidence and scrutinizing the intent and potential consequences of Kadambu’s remarks. The case underscores law enforcement’s resolve to curb incendiary rhetoric during periods of communal sensitivity.
Officials have appealed to public figures to exercise caution in their statements and to avoid inciting disharmony.
