Udupi: The NSS and YRC units of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) conducted an awareness programme on anti-ragging and anti-drug measures on August 18.

The chief guest, Manjunath Marbad, police sub-inspector of Shirva, highlighted recent steps taken by the Udupi and Mangaluru police to combat drug abuse among students. He informed that an anti-drug committee has been established comprising faculty, students, and police personnel to closely track and prevent drug-related incidents, ensuring student safety and well-being.

As part of preventive action, he said 10% of students will undergo screening once every three months. He also sensitised participants about ragging and cybercrime, offering practical tips on vigilance and avoiding online threats.

Addressing the youth, PSI Marbad encouraged them to act as responsible citizens, contributing towards a safe and drug-free campus and society.

The session drew participation from over 100 students. It was followed by a meeting of the newly constituted anti-drug committee, where the PSI explained the roles and duties of each member.

The principal, nodal officer, faculty, and student representatives actively engaged in the deliberations, reinforcing the importance of collective effort in eradicating these social evils.
