Udupi: A 54-year-old tractor driver, Sangappa Kirasur, tragically lost his life in a workplace accident while unloading cement blocks in Udupi on Friday.
As per the complaint lodged by his son, Maruti Kirasur, Sangappa was employed by Mandavi Builders and routinely transported cement blocks from the Manipal Industrial Area to various construction sites in the Udupi-Manipal region.
On the day of the incident, Sangappa had loaded his tractor-trolley with cement blocks and proceeded to a construction site near the Moodanidambur service bus stand. At around 4 pm, while reversing the vehicle down a basement ramp, the tractor’s front end lifted, destabilizing the vehicle. Sangappa reportedly slipped and fell between the tractor and the trolley, suffering a fatal head injury.
Ganesh, the building supervisor, informed the family that Sangappa was immediately taken to Adarsha Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The complaint states that the mishap occurred due to Sangappa’s negligence, as he reversed the heavy vehicle without adhering to necessary safety protocols.
Udupi Town Police have registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are investigating the incident further.
