Udupi: Marking a major milestone under the Shakti Yojana, the successful completion of ₹500 crore worth of free travel was celebrated in front of the Panch Guarantee Committee office in Udupi. The event was jointly organized by the Udupi District Panch Guarantee Implementation Authority and the Kaup Taluk Panch Guarantee Implementation Committee.
As part of the celebration, a government bus arriving from Mangaluru was symbolically halted, and sweets were shared with passengers and participants to commemorate the occasion.
Naveen Chandra S Suvarna, Chairperson of the Kaup Taluk Guarantee Project Implementation Committee, praised the scheme’s widespread impact. He noted that countless women across Udupi district have benefited from the initiative, using the opportunity to visit religious places and remote villages free of cost. “Sri Shakti Yojana is a visionary step by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. It empowers women and brings families closer. Everyone should make the most of this scheme,” he said.
The celebration witnessed participation from several committee members, including Prabhakar Acharya Katapady, Sudhir S Karkera, Keerthi Kumar, Reena Vinuta D’Souza, Uday C, and Lav Karkera. Devaraj Kotian, a member of Kaup Municipality, along with staff from Kaup Taluk Panchayat, were also present to support the event.
The Shakti Yojana, which enables women to travel free on government buses within the state, continues to receive overwhelming response and support from communities throughout Karnataka.
