Udupi: The Seer of Pejawar Mutt, Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, on Monday expressed that it is not proper to ban Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities in the state.

Seer confident in Chief Minister’s decision

Speaking to the media in Udupi, the seer said he is confident that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will take an appropriate decision after reviewing the demand. The call for a ban on RSS activities in government institutions and public premises was made by RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge.

The seer stated, “Mr. Kharge has the right to express his opinion. But I am confident that the Chief Minister will review the demand by consulting all,” highlighting his trust in a balanced approach by the state government.

Context of the demand

Priyank Kharge had recently suggested banning RSS activities in government offices and public spaces across Karnataka, citing concerns over the organisation’s influence in public institutions. The proposal sparked debate among political leaders and social groups, with opinions divided along ideological lines.

Seer’s perspective

Vishwaprasanna Tirtha emphasised that open dialogue and consultation are crucial before implementing any restrictions on social or cultural organisations. He refrained from directly criticizing the Minister but underlined the importance of allowing all voices to be heard.

Conclusion

The comments by the Udupi seer reflect the ongoing discussions in Karnataka over the role of RSS in public institutions. With the Chief Minister yet to announce a decision, political observers expect a measured response that balances governance concerns with freedom of association.
