A 69-year-old man from Udupi has fallen prey to a cyber scam, losing Rs 3,83,800 after clicking on a malicious APK file sent via WhatsApp.
According to his complaint, K. Jayaram received the APK file on November 28 from an unknown source. Trusting the sender, he clicked on the file, unknowingly triggering a series of fraudulent transactions. The scammer accessed his linked bank accounts, siphoning off Rs 3,83,800 and transferring it to their own account.
Jayaram became aware of the unauthorized deductions only after receiving an alert message later that day. Shocked by the sudden financial loss, he immediately filed a complaint with the Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) station in Udupi. Authorities are investigating the case to track down the fraudster.
