Udupi: In a remarkable testament to self-motivation, focus, and the potential of online education, 26-year-old Shreyans Gomes from Udupi has secured All India Rank 372 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024–25, one of the nation’s toughest competitive exams.
The results, declared on April 22, 2025, brought immense pride to his family and the coastal Karnataka community. What sets his success apart is that Shreyans cleared the exam in his third attempt, relying entirely on self-study and digital resources, without attending any physical coaching classes.
Hailing from Murudeshwar (Uttara Kannada), Shreyans is the son of Santyag Juje Gomes, a station master with Konkan Railways, and Mable Shanthi Gomes, a homemaker. He studied at Alva’s College, Moodbidri, before earning an engineering degree from R V College of Engineering, Bengaluru.
His passion for civil services took root during his college years. Despite initial setbacks—missing out in the mains in his first attempt and not clearing prelims in his second—he persisted. With unwavering discipline and an online study strategy, he cracked prelims, mains, and interview in his third try.
Shreyans now awaits his appointment order from the government.
To aspirants, he says: “Background doesn’t matter. If you’re dedicated, you can succeed. Stay consistent, and don’t fear failure. Combine hard work with smart work.”
His journey shines as a beacon for youth aiming to rise through determination and digital learning.
