Kodagu closes schools, colleges due to Cyclone Fengal’s impact
Kodagu is facing heavy rainfall due to Cyclone Fengal, leading the district administration to announce the closure of schools and colleges on Tuesday. However, institutions offering graduate and post-graduate courses are excluded from the closure. A red alert remains in effect for Kodagu until 8:30 am on Tuesday, prompting precautionary measures to safeguard the public. The cyclone has also affected other districts in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, resulting in similar closures of educational institutions in several regions as a safety measure.
Earlier, Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts declared holidays for schools and colleges on Monday, and now Kodagu follows suit, prioritizing safety amidst the adverse weather. The district’s Collector, Venkat Raja, confirmed that educational institutions, excluding those offering higher education, would be closed. The decision is part of a broader strategy to mitigate risks from Cyclone Fengal’s severe effects.
Anand Prakash Meena, CEO of the Zilla Panchayat, issued a statement confirming the one-day holiday for all Anganwadis, schools, and colleges in Kodagu. The closure reflects coordinated efforts from local authorities to ensure the safety of students and staff, with continued monitoring of the weather conditions. Residents are urged to stay updated on weather forecasts and follow official safety advice during this time.
