With the growing population and rapid urbanisation in Virajpet, eight new KSRTC bus services were launched on Saturday to improve passenger convenience. The services were flagged off from the Virajpet town KSRTC bus stand by MLA A.S. Ponnanna.
Speaking at the event, the MLA said that the additional routes were introduced to decongest passenger traffic between Virajpet municipality and surrounding areas. “The new buses will serve rural pockets of Virajpet taluk, helping people travel with greater ease. Passengers should make full use of these services,” he said.
Ponnanna also reminded KSRTC drivers and staff to treat commuters politely and work with dedication to enhance the corporation’s reputation. Highlighting the Congress government’s welfare initiative, he noted that the free bus facility for women has been especially beneficial, enabling easier access to education, work, and essential services.
The MLA emphasised that improved connectivity will not only reduce overcrowding but also support the mobility needs of a growing town. “With urbanisation, public transport must expand to keep pace with people’s requirements. These eight new buses mark an important step in that direction,” he added.
The inauguration event was attended by District Guarantee Implementation Authority president Dharmaja Uthappa, Taluk Guarantee Implementation chairman Johnson, Virajpet municipality chief officer Nachappa, vice-chairman Fasiha Tabsum, tahsildar P.S. Praveen, and other civic members.
The KSRTC initiative is expected to ease travel difficulties, especially in rural areas, while reinforcing the state government’s push for affordable and accessible public transport.
