Madikeri: The carcass of an 18-year-old female elephant was discovered on Thursday in a private estate near Kambibane Ooruguppe Paisari, sparking concern among forest officials and local residents.
Preliminary observations suggest the elephant may have died following an altercation with other wild elephants. The incident is believed to have occurred during the night of June 25.
A team of forest officials, including Madikeri Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Harshavardhan, Kushalnagar Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Gopal, Range Forest Officer (RFO) Ratan, and field staff, visited the site to inspect the scene.
Post-mortem examination of the elephant was carried out, after which the body was moved to the Anekaadu Reserve Forest area for further procedures and safe disposal.
