A 21-year-old man from Karnataka’s Koppal district has been arrested for allegedly committing a serious offence against his minor sister, police said on Sunday. The incident came to light after the girl was admitted to a district government hospital on October 30, where medical authorities alerted law enforcement following her condition.

Case came to light after hospital alert

According to officials, the girl was taken to the hospital with severe discomfort. During treatment, hospital staff found indications of possible abuse and informed the police as per legal procedure. Based on the girl’s statement, officers registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Police take swift action

The accused was subsequently arrested and sent to judicial custody. Police confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Section 64(2)(m) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

“The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, and further inquiry is in progress,” a senior police officer said.

Authorities ensure support for the survivor

Officials from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) have been informed and have taken necessary steps to ensure the minor’s safety and well-being. The committee is also coordinating with counsellors and support agencies to provide continued assistance to the survivor.

Growing concerns over child safety

The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of child safety awareness and the need for vigilance within families and communities. Experts stress that such cases often go unnoticed due to fear or emotional pressure faced by victims, underscoring the need for better sensitisation and preventive measures.

Police have appealed to citizens to remain alert and immediately report any instance of suspected child abuse to authorities through helpline numbers such as 1098 (Childline) or the local police control room.

Investigation underway

The investigation into the case is ongoing, and police have stated that all legal procedures will be followed to ensure justice is served.
