Deputy Commissioner Kumara has directed agriculture officials to expedite and ensure accuracy in the ongoing crop survey, stressing that reliable data is critical for estimating crop areas, assessing losses, and disbursing compensation under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

At a review meeting on Tuesday, he instructed that Private Residents (PRs) who have failed to meet survey targets be replaced with efficient personnel. He noted strong progress in the 2024–25 cycle, with area coverage at 91.5% for pre-monsoon, 96.4% in monsoon, 97.7% post-monsoon, and 95.8% for summer crops.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), ₹39.09 crore in compensation was released to farmers in 2023–24. So far this year, 3,708 farmers have submitted claims. Kumara urged officials to ramp up awareness campaigns, which currently include jingles broadcast via Raitha Sanjeevini vehicles, autorickshaws, garbage vans, and KSRTC bus stands. Outreach is also happening at milk dairies, farmer cooperatives, and markets.

Highlighting the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, he said ₹65.4 crore in loans and ₹21.7 crore in subsidies were approved for 258 entrepreneurs. This year’s target is 250 new beneficiaries.

Zilla Panchayat CEO KR Nandini suggested NRLM self-help groups could start traditional food ventures like oil mills, Maddur vade, and chips production. Training will be provided by experts once proposals are finalised.
