Mangaluru: The situation of middle and lower income wage laborers has worsened due to the recession and the covid-19. Against this backdrop, the Global Commercial Center has been set up near the Kallapu National Highway as a convenience for the poor traders. This is a model project fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of ‘Atmanirbhar’.
About 1.5 acres of land is used for the market in a total area of about five acres. Of these, 200 temporary shed-style boutiques, while the outer area is wholesale, the retail stores are on the inside. The rest is used for traffic and parking. Merchants are allowed to do any business on an affordable rental basis.
In this unique market, for the motorists a restroom, a dispensary, a concession-free canteen, a bathroom and a modern toilet are being constructed. For the sake of security, CC camera and eight security personnel have been appointed. Each store has an electric lamp and lighting all around. Negotiations with the bank for Banking Systems including ATM is being held.
The market space is eco-friendly and is self-serving as far as waste management is concerned with STP in place. It has been decided to plant trees to make it green and also cleanliness is one of the priorities.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Comissioner Rajendra K V visited the Global Commercial Center and has praised the system as a model. Abubakar Siddique, Promoter, Global Commercial Center, Mansur, Asif were present at the press conference.
