M Sc Bio Science programme inaugurated at Yenepoya Research Centre

Mangaluru: The long cherished dream of launching M Sc Bio Science programme at the Yenepoya Research Centre, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) was finally fulfilled on August 16, 2018. The programme was inaugurated by Prof M Abdul Rahiman, former Vice Chancellor Kannur and Calicut Universities and founder Chairman, Dept of Biosciences, Mangalore University. The programme was presided over by Dr M VijayaKumar, Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University).

Prof Dr M Abdul Rahiman reminisced about the long battles fought in successfully establishing MSc Bio Science in India. In his inaugural address, he encouraged the students to utilize the state-of-the-art facilities available in the centre to advance in their knowledge and skills.

Dr M VijayaKumar, Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya University gave a brief overview about the university’s journey in academic pursuit and told that being a young university, the institution has a great potential for growth. He encouraged the new batch of students to make use of the opportunity and learn with focus on their holistic development. He added by saying that educational degrees do not guarantee employability, but we do wish to create more scholars and knowledge seekers.

The occasion was also graced by the presence of Dr G Shreekumar Menon, Registrar, Mahammad Bawa P, Finance Officer, Dr B T Nandish, Deputy Controller of Examination and Dr Arun Bhagwath, Professor and Deputy Director, IQAC. Dr Rekha P D delivered the welcome address and gave the highlights of the MSc programme. Dr Shankar Prasad Das, Assistant Professor proposed the vote of thanks.

The Yenepoya Research Center has state-of-the-art facilities for research in multiple domains including molecular biology, nano science, stem cell and regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, microbiology, genomics, proteomic and metabolomics technologies. In addition to providing opportunities for carrying out Ph D, the centre also offers industry oriented PG Diploma in Multiomics Technology under BiSEP programme of Govt of Karnataka.
