Mangaluru: The underworld Don, Bannanje Raja arrested in February by the Interpol sleuths with the help of Indian RAW(Research and Analysis Wing) agencies reportedly got a cover from a local politician in Morocco thus making him elusive again, getting a bail. A former underworld operative worked with Raja alias RK alias Rajendra Kumar informed Newskarnataka.com under the condition of anonymity.
However on the other hand, a source privy to this case disputed this information claiming he would be extradited to Karnataka and delay was only due to complex paper works underway, before taking him back to the state. Notorious gangster Bannanje is wanted in 40 odd cases including many extortions.
A former underworld operative conformed about his escape and said the matter was kept confidential by the Indian agencies as his escape would demoralize the trust vested on the forces dealing his case. A local politician, the name of whom, a former underworld operative refused to say, facilitated get Raja bail to walk free. Though whereabouts of Raja at present is unknown, few other sources in the underworld say he is hiding at Morocco itself.
The state police after the arrest told many section of the media that he would be brought back to Karnataka in two months after completion of due procedures. There was a view among people that he won’t be allowed to go elusive this time as police forces and other agencies dealing the case appeared hell bent in pursuing Don’s return.
The Police Commissioner S Murugan speaking to Newskarnataka.com expressed that he had no information on this. When questioned on whether he would be taken to Karnataka at least this time, Murugan said ‘efforts’ were being made to realize his return to the state.
It could be recalled that Raja was arrested in the year 2009 but in similar style he walked out and continued his underworld operations from many parts of the world.
