Mangaluru: — In a heartbreaking incident, Shreya (19), a second-year BA student from Kinya in Talapady, died by suicide at her residence on Tuesday.
The young woman was found hanging in her room. According to sources, she had been experiencing severe emotional distress and frequent headaches in the days leading up to the tragedy.
Two death notes recovered from her room paint a painful picture of her mental state. In one, Shreya wrote that she was ridiculed and humiliated for her dark skin tone. A previous note, dated May, revealed deeper struggles—she felt unloved, believed she was a burden to her family, and saw no reason to continue living.
On her cupboard, she had also scribbled: “I don’t like this generation, so I decided to suicide.”
It is also reported that she had failed two subjects in her first semester, which may have added to her sense of despair.
Family members described Shreya as a reserved individual who kept to herself and rarely opened up to others. She was studying in a private college in Mangaluru.
This tragedy underscores the urgent need for greater mental health support and increased awareness about the impact of body shaming and academic pressure on young lives.
Authorities are investigating further.
