A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman, identified as Shwetha, near the MRPL cargo gate on Wednesday afternoon.
Shwetha, a native of Uttara Kannada residing at Katipalla Kaikamba, was riding pillion on a bike driven by her brother. The siblings were headed towards Surathkal when she fell off the bike and was run over by a tipper lorry coming from behind.
Police said the lorry crushed her upper body, killing her on the spot. Her brother sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Mangaluru North Traffic Police registered a case and seized the lorry.
