Bantwal: In a major breakthrough, Bantwal Town Police arrested a long-time absconder on Thursday, July 10, in connection with a 2007 kidnapping and cheating case. The accused had been evading trial for over seven months.
The individual, identified as Hidayath alias Abdulla Embhatha, a resident of Manchi, Bantwal, was located and arrested from Manjeshwar in Kerala, where he had been hiding since December 2023 after skipping court hearings.
Hidayath is a key accused in Crime No. 139/2007 registered at Bantwal Town Police Station. He faces multiple serious charges under IPC Sections 366 (kidnapping), 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 368 (wrongful confinement), and 149 (unlawful assembly).
Though previously out on bail, he violated its conditions and absconded midway through the legal proceedings. Based on credible intelligence, Bantwal police tracked him down and promptly arrested him. He was produced before the court, which has since remanded him to judicial custody.
In light of his continued non-compliance and disregard for bail conditions, authorities have also registered a new case – Crime No. 74/2025 under Section 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against him. Further investigations and legal actions are ongoing.
