Bantwal: A major accident was narrowly averted on Friday when a massive tree came crashing down onto the Mani–Mysuru National Highway near Neralakatte. Fortunately, there were no vehicles at the exact spot when the incident occurred, sparing motorists from harm.
Narrow escape for vehicles
According to locals, a few heavy vehicles, including a lorry, had passed the stretch only moments before the tree fell. The incident happened during the holiday weekend, when traffic flow on the highway was lighter than usual, reducing the risk of casualties.
Locals take swift action
The fallen tree caused a temporary disruption to traffic, blocking one side of the busy highway. In the absence of immediate official response, local residents quickly came together to clear the debris from the road, ensuring that movement resumed without prolonged delays.
The cause of the tree fall is believed to be a combination of weakened roots and recent weather conditions, although authorities are yet to officially confirm the reason.
