The district CEN (Cyber Crime) police station, which is currently located in Mangaluru, will soon shift operations to Bantwal. It will begin functioning from the old Bantwal city police station building, which is undergoing renovation and expansion.
The refurbishment of the building is being carried out by Nirmiti Kendra of Mangaluru, with plans for extending the structure. Previously, individuals reporting cyber crimes from across Dakshina Kannada had to travel all the way to Mangaluru, creating significant inconvenience for residents from areas like Bantwal, Sullia, Puttur, Beltangady, and Kadaba.
The renovation is taking place near B C Road town police station in Bantwal taluk, with a budget of Rs 35 lakh allocated for the project. The work includes replacing the roof to maintain the building’s original architecture and adding eight new pillars at the front, which will help create a more welcoming space for complainants. This proposal, which was made two years ago, has now been approved and funded.
The upgraded facility will feature separate rooms for key officials, including the DySP, inspector, and PSI, along with spaces for petition reception and washrooms. It will also house two prison cells. SP Yathish N has already visited the site, and the station will be equipped to accommodate 25 staff members. Engineer Naveen Chandra of Nirmiti Kendra stated that the renovation is expected to be completed in the next seven to eight months.
