Bantwal: As part of the BC Road–Addahole highway expansion project, both lanes of the 2.1 km Kalladka flyover are now open to the public from Wednesday, easing traffic in the region.
Earlier, only one lane was operational, with vehicles from both directions using the same side since June 2. This caused frequent bottlenecks, especially during peak hours. With the central segment of the flyover nearing completion, traffic has now been permitted in both directions.
However, authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, as certain parts of the structure are still incomplete. Notably, dividers and retaining walls at the entry and exit points are yet to be built. Additionally, due to unfinished drainage pipelines, rainwater is seen falling directly onto the roadway in several spots, posing a potential hazard during showers.
The 64-km BC Road–Addahole highway project is being carried out in two phases. The Periyashanthi–Addahole stretch (15 km) is 95% done, with work halted on a 400-meter segment due to a court stay.
The Periyashanthi–BC Road section has also made steady progress. Elevated roads at Kalladka, Panemangalore, Melkar, Mani, Nekkilady, Uppinangady, and Subrahmanya Cross are already open to traffic. Construction continues on the Nellyadi flyover, and a toll plaza near Valalu in Uppinangady is under development.
Moreover, a one-way concrete road on Narahari Hill is operational, while concrete service roads under the elevated structures between Perne Junction and Nellyadi are still under construction.
