Mangaluru: A number of individuals suffered injuries on Saturday after a private bus lost control and collided with the compound wall of the KSRTC bus stand in Vittal. The incident occurred in Vittal Kasaba village of Bantwal Taluk.

Veena D’Souza, 42, a resident of Kanyana in Bantwal, was among the passengers aboard the bus, which was operating on the interstate Kalladka–Kanhangad route. The mishap happened while the bus was en route from the Vittal private bus stand toward Kanyana.

According to Veena, the bus driver, Rajesh D’Souza, was allegedly driving carelessly when he lost control near the KSRTC premises. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the bus stand’s boundary wall, leaving her injured. She was first taken to the Vittal Government Hospital and later shifted to a facility in Puttur for advanced care.

In total, nine passengers on board sustained injuries and were treated at the Vittal Government Hospital. The driver and bus conductor, identified as Ravi, also received minor injuries in the accident.

A formal complaint was lodged at the Vittal Police Station, and authorities registered a case under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for negligent driving and endangering public safety.

Investigations are ongoing, and police have taken statements from the injured and eyewitnesses to determine the full cause of the crash.
