In Udupi, a man accused of cattle theft, Syed Mustaq, 45, was arrested after evading court appearances for nearly 21 years. The arrest was made on Saturday by a team led by Manipal police station inspector Devaraj TV and head constable Prasanna in Katapadi, Manipura. Mustaq was later presented before the court.

The case dates back to July 21, 1993, when Devendra Naik of Shivalli village lodged a complaint at Manipal police station, reporting that two of his cows, grazing near Indrali Temple in Shivalli village, had been stolen. A case was registered under Section 379 of the IPC for cattle theft. Although the accused was initially arrested, he absconded and avoided court proceedings for over two decades.
