Mangaluru: Marking the 100th birth anniversary of celebrated Konkani writer and journalist VJP Saldanha, the Sahitya Akademi has launched a three-day book exhibition and discount sale from August 12 to 14 at Sahodaya Hall, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru. The exhibition is open to visitors daily from 10 am to 6 pm.
The event was inaugurated by Dr Mahalinga Bhat, Dean of the School of Language and Cultural Studies at St Aloysius. Showcasing a diverse collection, the exhibition includes works in Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, English, and Hindi.
In addition to the exhibition, the Sahitya Akademi — India’s National Academy of Letters under the Ministry of Culture — will host a two-day birth centenary seminar on August 13 and 14. This seminar, focusing on Saldanha’s life and literary contributions, will take place at Robert Sequeira Hall, LCRI Block, St Aloysius.
The programme is organised in association with the Konkani Institute of St Aloysius and Vision Konkani. Notable attendees at the inauguration included Sahitya Akademi Konkani Advisory Board convenor Melvyn Rodrigues and board member HM Pernal.
