Mangaluru: To commemorate a significant milestone of 500 crore women passengers benefiting from the ‘Shakti Yojana’, the Dakshina Kannada District Congress organized a celebration at the KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru today.
A puja ceremony was conducted for the district’s KSRTC buses as a symbolic gesture marking the success of the initiative. The Shakti Yojana, launched by the Karnataka government, offers free travel for women in KSRTC buses across the state. The scheme has gained wide popularity, especially among women from rural areas and economically weaker sections.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent Congress leaders, including Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza, former MLA J.R. Lobo, and other party workers and supporters.
Leaders hailed the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, crediting him for implementing people-centric guarantees that benefit women and enhance their mobility and independence. They stated that the initiative not only reduces travel costs for women, but also encourages their social and economic participation.
Speakers at the event emphasized that the scheme has touched every corner of Karnataka, with women using the service to travel for education, work, healthcare, and religious visits.
The program concluded with expressions of gratitude to the transport workers and officials involved in ensuring the smooth execution of the scheme.
