Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada (DK) district has achieved a remarkable 82.1% completion rate in the generation of Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) IDs, the highest in Karnataka since the initiative began. Despite not reaching full coverage, Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK) has praised DK for consistently topping the state in implementation.
APAAR IDs are mandatory for all students from kindergarten to Class XII, and will soon become essential for a range of academic processes, including tracking performance, exam registrations, and student transfers.
Officials highlighted that the process for new entrants in kindergarten and Class I is yet to begin for the current academic year. In the meantime, parents are urged to ensure Aadhaar details are accurate and updated, as Aadhaar is the primary basis for generating APAAR IDs.
A major roadblock in achieving 100% registration stems from migrant families—especially those from North Karnataka and other districts. Many face issues such as name and address mismatches on Aadhaar cards, which must often be corrected in their hometowns.
A teacher from a government school near Bokkapatna, where a large number of migrant students are enrolled, reported that only 80% of registrations have been completed due to these mismatches. “Even a single spelling error in the Aadhaar name stops the process,” the teacher said.
Govinda Madivala, Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), DK, emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying APAAR IDs will soon be linked to national entrance exams. “It ensures transparency, academic mobility, and prevents duplication,” he said, urging parents to submit accurate documentation.
