Puttur: In a major breakthrough, Uppinangady police have arrested a 24-year-old man, Sohail alias Sohib, originally from Hassan, who had been absconding for five years in connection with multiple theft cases across Karnataka and Kerala.

Sohail is the prime accused in eight separate theft cases, including two registered at Uppinangady police station in 2020 and 2022, and one each at Bantwal Town and Ullal police stations in 2020. He is also wanted in a 2022 case at Kannapuram police station in Kerala.

Though recently residing in Talapady, Mangaluru, Sohail reportedly frequently changed locations to evade arrest. Acting on a tip-off, the police tracked him down to Bittagowdanahalli in Hassan district, where he was finally apprehended and later produced before the court.

The arrest was led by Uppinangady SI Kaushik, with support from Shivaram, Shreeshaila, and Mohammad Maulana.
