Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch arrested a fugitive accused in a counterfeit currency case on Sunday, bringing relief to the police force that had been tracking him for months.

Arrest and identification

The accused, identified as Nizamuddin alias Nizam (33), is a resident of B.C. Road. Police sources stated that he was arrested at Valalu near Uppinangady on August 25, acting on specific intelligence inputs.

Nizamuddin was previously booked in 2023 under Sections 489 (B) and (C) read with Section 34 IPC at the Mangaluru East Police Station. He was under trial and had been released on bail but failed to appear before the court, prompting the issuance of eight arrest warrants.
