The Indian Open of Surfing (IOS) is back for its sixth edition, riding the waves of excitement at Sasihithlu Beach, Mangaluru, from May 30 to June 1. This premier surfing contest is the second stop in the National Surfing Championship series and is officially recognized by the International Surfing Association.

The Surfing Federation of India (SFI), in partnership with Mantra Surf Club and Surfing Swami Foundation (SSF), is organizing the event, which will showcase India’s top talent across four competitive categories:

  • Men’s Open

  • Women’s Open

  • Groms (U-16) Boys

  • Groms (U-16) Girls

  • Coming on the heels of the International Surfing Festival Kerala (Varkala 2025) held in April, the IOS is expected to intensify the national surfing rivalry between east and west coast athletes. The three-day event promises high-octane performances and is crucial for competitors aiming to climb national rankings.

This year’s competition carries added weight. After India’s historic debut in securing two surfing quotas for the 2026 Asian Games—achieved at the 2024 Asian Surf Championship in the Maldives—surfers now have their eyes set on further qualifying events. A strong performance at IOS could be a game-changer in their journey to represent India on the Asian stage.
