Karavali Utsav, a grand event that celebrates the region’s rich cultural diversity, will take place from December 21 to January 19. After a hiatus of almost three years, this festival is set to return, as confirmed by legislative assembly speaker U.T. Khader. Speaking through a video conference from Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, he emphasized the festival’s potential to attract visitors not just from within the state, but from neighboring regions as well. Efforts are being made to draw a large crowd to this much-anticipated event.
The Mangaluru Carnival will mark the beginning of the celebrations on December 21. Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan shared with the press that the carnival will feature a lively procession, with performers in traditional attire marching from Canara College in Kodialbail to the Karavali Utsav grounds, highlighting the area’s cultural richness. Following the opening, well-known artists will entertain audiences with a variety of cultural performances.
A special “Global Village” exhibition will showcase Dakshina Kannada’s diverse cultures, including handloom weaving, pottery, and tribal crafts, along with traditional foods from Tulu Nadu. Additionally, there will be 60 commercial stalls at the Karavali Utsav, with 30 already reserved. An amusement park and an aquarium are among the attractions for all age groups.
The event is organized with support from various departments, including Kannada and Culture, Tourism, Youth Empowerment and Sports, and the Coastal Tourism Development Council. Key officials such as Zilla Panchayat CEO Anandh K were present at the announcement.
Highlights include the Robotic Butterfly Park at Kadri Park (Dec 22), a Beach Festival at Tannirbavi Beach (Dec 28-29), and a Vintage Car Rally and Dog Show (Jan 4-5). A Youth Festival at Kadri Park (Jan 11-12) and the ONGC-MRPL International Kite Festival (Jan 18-19) will also take place.
