Mangaluru: The Karnataka State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament began today at Father Muller Indoor Stadium, setting the tone for a week filled with fast-paced rallies and fierce competition. With participants from across the state, the event was launched in a grand inaugural ceremony attended by dignitaries, players, and sports enthusiasts.
The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru, who emphasized the role of sports in instilling discipline and shaping future champions. “Mastering the basics with dedication and passion is the first step toward sporting excellence,” he advised the young paddlers.
Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, presided over the ceremony and encouraged athletes to dream big and stay persistent in their goals. His motivational address inspired the audience to strive for excellence both on and off the table.
Renowned coach Ms. Shalini Rajesh Shetty, Guest of Honour and Chief Coach of United Athletics, Udupi, highlighted the importance of early sports specialization. She urged parents to help children focus on a single sport they truly enjoy, promoting sustained interest and better performance.
Also present were key figures from the state’s table tennis community, including Mr. Gowtham Shetty, President of D.K. Table Tennis Association, Mr. K.R. Manjunatha, KTTA Secretary, Mr. T.G. Upadhya, Chief Referee, and Mr. I.K. Jayachandra, Secretary of Udupi District Table Tennis Association.
The tournament officially commenced with matches in the Men’s, Women’s, and Under-19 categories. Spectators can look forward to a spirited display of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship in the days to come.
