Raju Swamy, a cobbler who has been working near the RTO in Mangaluru for over 40 years, was gifted a new shop on Tuesday. The BJP Dakshina Mandala Backward Classes Morcha marked former mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar’s 49th birthday by building the shop for Raju, whose previous workspace had severely deteriorated. The new shop, valued at Rs 85,000, was a gesture of support to ensure Raju could continue his livelihood.

At the inauguration, Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath praised the initiative, highlighting Pandeshwar’s ongoing commitment to social welfare. “Diwakar Pandeshwar’s dedication to helping others is truly commendable,” Kamath stated. “From donating sewing machines to sponsoring scholarships, his contributions to the community are significant.”

Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur also expressed his appreciation, noting that Pandeshwar’s act of building the shop for a poor cobbler reflects his deep commitment to public service. The event saw attendance from several notable figures, including OBC Morcha vice-president Raghavendra, Harshith Kottari, Ramesh Kandettu, former mayor Premananda Shetty, and deputy mayor Poornima.

The initiative has been widely lauded as a meaningful contribution to the community, emphasizing the impact of small acts of kindness on individuals’ lives.
