Mangaluru: The RGUHS Mangaluru Zone Intercollegiate Badminton Tournament 2025 concluded with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit at the Father Muller Indoor Stadium, hosted by Father Muller Medical College on 23rd and 24th July. The event brought together 72 participants from medical and dental colleges, marking a significant display of athleticism and institutional sportsmanship.
Held under the aegis of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), the two-day tournament drew a strong crowd and featured thrilling matches in both men’s and women’s categories. The event not only celebrated physical endurance and team spirit but also highlighted the institution’s commitment to holistic education.
Ceremony opens with tributes to sport and student achievement
The tournament began with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising energy and enlightenment. Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, delivered the keynote address, urging students to embrace sports as an essential part of their growth. Citing the national Khelo India initiative, he expressed hope for India’s emergence as a global sporting power.

A notable moment during the ceremony was the felicitation of Mr. Chandrashekhara S.N., Physical Instructor at Father Muller Medical College, who has been recently appointed Sports Coordinator by RGUHS. His recognition was hailed as a proud moment for the institution.
The proceedings were smoothly compered by Ms. Claudia Johnny, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences.
