Mangaluru – Last month’s torrential rains in Dakshina Kannada wreaked havoc around the Kulur Bridge area, leading to severe waterlogging and the formation of large potholes, which disrupted traffic flow and caused long tailbacks.

Due to these conditions, buses were stranded for extended hours, unable to maintain their schedules. The old Kulur Bridge had to be temporarily shut down for essential maintenance, further worsening the congestion.

Fed up with waiting for official repair work, bus staff operating along the Kulur-Kavoor route took matters into their own hands. They performed Shramadan (voluntary community service) by filling potholes with mud and gravel, helping to restore a smoother flow of traffic.

Although their efforts have temporarily eased the situation, concerns remain that another spell of rain could reverse all progress.

Locals are now urging authorities to implement a permanent solution to avoid repeated disruptions during monsoon months.
