Puttur: A motorcyclist lost his life in a tragic road accident on Friday afternoon at Padil on the outskirts of Puttur after his two-wheeler rammed into a divider-mounted light pole. Another motorcycle was also involved in the incident, leaving its rider and a child with minor injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Kodineeru near Bellippadi village.
Bike crashes into divider-mounted pole
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred when the victim was travelling from Puttur towards Darandakkukke. Near Padil junction, the rider reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a light pole fixed on the road divider.
The impact was severe, resulting in fatal injuries to the rider.
Second motorcycle caught in aftermath
At the same time, another motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction on the other side of the divider was also drawn into the incident. That vehicle met with an accident as well, though its rider and a child sustained only minor injuries, officials said.
Both were provided medical attention and are reported to be out of danger.
Conflicting accounts of the incident
Authorities said that two versions of the accident have emerged during the initial inquiry. One version suggests that the victim lost control of the vehicle and directly hit the divider pole.
Another account claims that a motorcycle coming from the Uppinangady side was allegedly being ridden on the wrong side of the road. This may have forced the victim to swerve suddenly in an attempt to avoid a collision, leading to the fatal crash.
Poor visibility added to confusion
Witnesses at the scene reported that thick dust rose immediately after the collision, affecting visibility and making it difficult to clearly understand the sequence of events.
This has added to the uncertainty surrounding the exact cause of the accident.
Police inspection and investigation underway
Puttur Traffic Police Sub-Inspector Suhas and personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident and conducted an inspection.
Officials also reviewed CCTV footage from nearby establishments, but stated that it did not provide a clear account of how the accident occurred.
