Mangaluru: BJP MP Brijesh Chowta reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s position on the ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the Dharmasthala case, stating that he would not comment further until the investigation concludes.

Party stands firm on protecting religious sentiments

Addressing a press conference in Mangaluru, Chowta said,

“The BJP has always stood by the principle that Dharmasthala is a revered religious centre. Any attempt to insult religious institutions or hurt devotees’ sentiments through false allegations will not be tolerated.”

He further stated that YouTubers had allegedly received money from various sources to conspire against the constituency, and a fair probe has been sought.

Courtesy case and SIT investigation

Chowta referred to MLA Harish Poonja’s statement in the Assembly demanding a re-investigation of the “courtesy case”.

“The SIT is already conducting an investigation, and the BJP was the first to welcome it. It is inappropriate for public representatives to make detailed comments until the probe is complete,” he said.

Clarification on ‘guru’ remark

When questioned about reports referring to Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat as his guru, Chowta clarified,

“I don’t know who said that. My guru is Bhagavadhwaja. We respect RSS volunteers and our elders.”
