Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) is set to convert the football ground at Nehru Maidan into a state-of-the-art artificial turf facility. The project, estimated to cost around Rs 2.2 crore, aims to promote football and provide enhanced facilities for players, particularly budding footballers in the city.
The project will officially be launched in the presence of Speaker T Khader within a few days. MSCL General Manager (Technical) Arun Prabha KS mentioned that the new artificial turf will be ready within two months of commencing the work. The work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, with the laying of the artificial turf expected to start by the end of this month.
The contract for the project has already been awarded, although the commencement was delayed due to heavy rains, technical challenges, and an ongoing monsoon league football tournament at the ground. Once completed, the ground will be a full-fledged football turf, suitable for all types of matches, significantly contributing to the growth of football in the region.
