Mangaluru: The Nethravathi riverbank, once bustling with the unloading of sand from boats, has found a new lease of life with the introduction of water sports activities. For the first time in the region, locals and tourists can enjoy a variety of water-based adventures along the river.
Located just off the Panvel-Kochi National Highway 66, after the Netravathi Bridge on the way to Thokkottu, a small road leads to Adam Kudru. Though the island no longer exists due to the highway’s construction, the name remains. The expansive Dhakke (boat landing point) on the riverbank, bordering a creek, now hosts the newly established water sports activities.
Operating under the name ‘Blue Miracle Water Sports’ for the past three days, the facility offers a range of thrilling options, including water cycling, zorbing ball and zorbing cylinder, pedal boats, kayaking, bumper rides (pulled by a speed boat), banana boats, trampoline, speed boats, bouncing rides, and even a makeshift kids’ boating pool. The serene Netravathi backwaters provide a perfect setting for these activities.
The proprietor assured that all necessary permissions and clearances had been obtained from the relevant authorities, with safety being a top priority. Life jackets are mandatory for all participants, and trained personnel are on hand to oversee the operations. The rides are reasonably priced, ranging from ₹200 to ₹300 depending on the activity.
Udayashankar, a local from Jeppu, expressed enthusiasm about the new venture, highlighting its potential to offer a convenient escape for Mangalureans and attract tourists eager to indulge in water sports.
